Executive Board Members
Name: Sukari A. Brown
Major: Civil Engineering
Position: Chapter President
Why did you run for President?
I ran for President, because I wanted to help develop our chapter members into strong leaders in the classroom and in the technical workplace. I wanted to be President to inspire members to maximize their potential and come together to fulfilling the NSBE mission. It is my hope that after serving my Chapter this year, that NYU-PolyNSBE will be on a stable path towards consistently providing its members with the tools needed to be successful academically at NYU-Poly, strong in their communities and leaders in their workplace.
What do you plan to achieve?
As President I would like to improve our chapter programming so that it is has a positive impact on our members. Our programming should address the whole engineering student in that we have workshops and events that are geared towards academic/technical excellence, but then we have the events that help members de-stress and build a sense of community.
It is important to me that we not only increase membership but retain membership. Numbers do not speak volumes for me, it is more in the quality. No member should come into this chapter and leave as the same person. I will work so that everyone, will end the year seeing some sort of growth whether it be in academics, leadership, public speaking, social interactions or networking. I am here to help direct and to help inspire. Getting people to believe in me is not enough- I need people to believe in themselves.
Name: Nyamebekyere S. Smith
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Position: Internal Vice President
Why did you run for Internal Vice President?
I ran for Vice President because I want to be in a position where I can fully understand the needs of the NYU-Poly membership to better serve you. We are a dynamic group at NYU-Poly but every individual should be catered to and we should offer something for everyone. I will also continue my development as a leader in my role as Vice President. NSBE has given me a lot including academic support, friends, and opportunities to help my community. I would like every member to take advantage of what NSBE has to offer because this organization is run for its members; by its members.
What do you plan to achieve?
In my tenure as Internal Vice President I would to collaborate with the Chapter Executive Board to expand our academic programs to include additional tools such as study groups, tutors, test prep, etc. Also I would to establish a stable foundation for the NYU-Poly Retention Program that can be built upon in the following years.
Name: Shane Garraway
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Position: Treasurer
Why did you run for Treasurer?
I ran for the position of Treasurer because I was confident in my ability to lead as an officer in an organization that I see making great strides in the student body. Last year I held the position of finance chair. Under the guidance of the previous treasurer I learned the intricacies of the finance branch of the organization. This gained knowledge has made me that much more confident in my ability to lead.
What do you plan to achieve?
Next year I hope to reach further out of the poly community to increase the organizations financial vitality through corporate sponsorship. I plan to keep the organization’s budget balanced and in good standing through a new level of transparency that puts the power of checks and balances not only in my and the other officers hands but also in the hands of the general body.
