The Poly NSBE journey began nearly 31 years ago. Since the beginning this chapter has seen accomplishments that have triggered a chain of events that have placed Polytechnic on the map of leadership within this now international organization. 30 years later we have come so far, we have seen so much, because of the membership. NSBE has carried on not simply because of those who held office but because of the members who kept in mind the ideals of our founding documents and mission of academic excellence, professional success and cultural awareness. Members who were able to come together and have allowed us as a chapter to produce Members of the Month, Members of the Year, Zone Leaders, Regional Leaders and National Leaders. This spirit has trickled down from year to year which has sparked inspiration in NSBE leaders and general members alike.
Being the new leader of this chapter I dedicate myself and also ask of you now, to reengage and reaffirm your spirit of academic excellence, the first tenet in our mission statement. Without this aspect we are unable to truly fulfill the other aspects of our mission to the best of our ability. I can say from experience that it is easy to fall into the rituals, to become consumed by the rigors of the school work your doing without a clear focus and objective to guide you. That is what makes excelling difficult. Discover or reaffirm that fundamental spirit that got you excited about your major in the first place, that thirst for knowledge, that yearning to affect a difference in real world applications, to bring about something that exemplifies your innovation and imagination. This means taking the time to study, taking advantage of your professors and friends, being more involved in the tutoring opportunities in your school, and simply learning for learnings sake. That is something I myself personally am working toward and to those who have not yet discovered that revelation I invite you to do so as well.
